A frigid conference room

Recently, we were having a meeting in my office’s conference room.

  • We typically have these staff meetings around lunch time.

I know that they schedule these meetings right before lunch time so that everyone will be thinking about hurrying up and getting to lunch instead of sitting around and asking inane questions like everyone always seems to be interested in doing during these meetings. Anyway, this time around, it was extremely cold in the conference room. We tried to control the thermostat to turn up the temperature by a few degrees to get some relief from the cold, but it didn’t seem to be working at all! Someone mentioned that they had come into the conference room earlier in the day to turn the temperature down by just a few degrees because they felt it was too warm in the conference room. Now we weren’t able to control it at all! It turned out to be one of the most miserable meetings that I’d ever taken part in. Everybody couldn’t wait to get out of there so that we could go anywhere that was warmer. My hands were starting to go numb and I felt as if I was freezing directly to my seat! The air conditioner was running the whole time, so it clearly had something going on with it. Air conditioners are supposed to turn off eventually, once the room reaches the desired temperature, after all. You would think that our bosses had the money to take care of a simple air conditioning problem! My guess is that they’re too cheap to care about such things.
