A long night in the cold air

My friends really wanted to go camping, but I thought the weather was too cold. The temperature was not too terrible during the day, but the sun going down changed everything. I thought it was too cold to camp inside of a tent. I suggested bringing a small heater that runs on batteries, but my friends thought that idea was silly. I urged the guys to change their mind, but they didn’t want to carry any extra luggage up and down the trail. They told me to stop worrying. I couldn’t shake the feeling that we would be freezing cold all night, so I packed a few hand warmers just in case. We left on Friday afternoon and headed over to the state park. The temperature was cool, but the shining sun made everything warm. When the sun went down, we already had a fire built. We placed the tent as close to the fire as possible. We maintain a safe distance, but we could still feel the warmth from the glowing red and orange flames. On the second night of our weekend, my friends and I really wished that we had brought a heater. Sometime in the middle of the night it started to rain. The rain made the temperature very cold and we were shivering. Thankfully our tent is waterproof, or we would have been in serious trouble. The rain washed out all of the campsite and we ended up coming home very early on Sunday. I hope my friends will listen to me the next time that I have a bad feeling.
