A low income household

As a child, my sisters and I didn’t have a whole lot of extra dough.

My oldest sister was like a single parent in our household & had to work a lot of jobs in order to provide for our sisters & I.

I was the next oldest, so I did my best to contribute & not complain about the things every one of us were lacking. But, the younger siblings were constantly complaining about how chilly our house was during the winter. While we had a perfectly functional furnace, our oldest sister did not care about to run it easily often. When she did run the heater, she kept it on the lowest setting. It didn’t make sense to my sisters that every one of us would have a gas furnace & not use it. But, they didn’t understand the concept of giving money for the energy bill that every one of us would get monthly. Given our financial situation, our sister wanted to use as little energy as possible. My sister would tell us to put on a sweatshirt or get under a blanket if every one of us were cold. It may not be the same as using the heat, however it was enough to keep us hot when every one of us were home. After I was old enough to get a work, I began giving our sister money towards the bills. I helped her out in anyway I was able to, although I couldn’t job that many hours during the school day. but, it was enough to allow her to run the heater plan a little more often.
