A new addition to winter preparations this year

So I find it sort of funny that for the first time in nearly 40 years of homeownership, I’m actually protecting the air conditioning.

That’s right, making sure the air conditioning is safe and secure for the winter is part of my winter preparations now.

The irony is not lost on me. The idea of putting in central air conditioning was most assuredly not mine. But after several years of petitioning for central air conditioning, I finally gave in to my wife’s request. It seems that the older we get, the more sensitive she had become to the heat of summer. For 40 years, we have never needed central air conditioning and I’m still not convinced it’s a need. But, I have to agree with my wife that it sure is pleasant to be able to kick the thermostat over to HVAC cooling. In the past, if the heat got to be a bit much for a few weeks in the summer, I threw a window air conditioning unit in and we moved on. But that just wouldn’t do any longer. For sure, it does seem like our summers are getting warmer a bit. But the winter is still as fierce as ever and lasts at least six months. So I have to prepare the house for the cold and that include HVAC maintenance from the HVAC professionals. That said, I now have to make sure that I cover the air conditioning cabinet outside as part of the winter prep. It seems funny to me somehow that I’m taking care of the air conditioning as the last step for preparing for months and months of winter cold.
