AC kicks into gear; contaminants ruin my cake

You really need to be careful about who you associate with.

I learned this at an early age after watching my brother fall into the wrong crowd and make a lot of terrible mistakes.

He was always guilty by association for the sins of his peers. Beyond that, it seemed like these closely-knit negative influences had a terrible effect on one another. As an adult I have always been careful to steer clear of rough crowds. I don’t want to fall into any of their shenanigans. Apparently, I also need to be careful about falling into the company of terrible heating and cooling owners. Several years ago I started hanging out with a group of girls who always talk about indoor air quality control. However, they never mentioned maintaining their heating and cooling system. They only discuss the merits of having a high powered HVAC system so they can change the thermostat settings whenever they want to. You might say that they are high maintenance when it comes to indoor air temperature but not indoor air quality. Because I was at a very impressionable age and had no idea how heating and cooling systems work, I followed their lead. I was constantly changing my thermostat settings but never worried about the routine service appointments, air filter changes, or duct cleaning. This HVAC irresponsibility came back to bite me in the butt while I was making a birthday cake for one of my friends. Just as I finished icing the beautiful cake my air conditioning system kicked into gear. Suddenly, dirt and dander came flying through my air vents and coated the cake with filth. That’s the day that I realized HVAC maintenance matters more than temperature control.
