Break-ins precipitated a home automation system

I worry about leaving my home nowadays. I know that the amount of home invasions and break-ins is increasing. We had a couple of break-ins in our neighborhood in the last two months and this had never happened. My wife and I work a lot of hours and we often come home well after dark. We have two boys who spend several hours home alone, during those evening hours. We worried that someone would try to break into the home while we were gone and our boys would be injured. We made the choice to have a home automation system installed into our home so we could have some home security. Now that we have a smart home, we aren’t nearly as anxious about the safety of our home or family. We have a security system that includes sirens, locks, lights, access codes and occupancy and motions sensors. There are so many other security features to our system. The sirens are great for scaring off intruders even before they are able to get into the house and do any damage. Not only do the sirens alert the authorities but they alert the neighbors. We can check the door locks with our smartphones and we can make sure the windows are secured. If there is glass breakage or something trips the sensors, the police and fire company are both notified. We have security surveillance around the perimeter of the yard and now we can monitor anyone who comes onto the property. We also have lights that come on at dusk so no one is ever going to the door or onto the pathways without there being adequate lighting.
