Just considering my HVAC system at all is something that I tend to do a few times a year.
Well, I do change the HVAC air filter each month but, that really doesn’t count. The HVAC maintenance gets scheduled which keeps it in good form. In fact, it’s been over 10 years of heating & cooling with maybe a few very minor repairs. Personally, I put that in the win column. Our HVAC should keep going for at least another 5 or 6 years with great results. So, I tend not to think about the HVAC all that much. Then one day, it just dawned on my out of the blue. The HVAC treated air is traveling to us through the air ducts. And, those air ducts have never been cleaned since we have owned the house. Maybe not ever. That thought froze me to the spot. My next move was to pull out my phone and call the HVAC company. They were great and were helpful in mitigating my slight panic. The lady at the HVAC office set up an appointment with a company who does nothing but clean out residential and commercial air ducts. She assured me that I would be very pleased with the results. And more than just the peace of mind aspect. That company’s crew showed up on time which for me, is a great sign that at least they are professional enough to keep appointments. It took several hours and I had to walk away when I saw some of the bags of ick that were being sucked out of the air ducts. But, I am super pleased with results. Although, I will not be forgetting the HVAC or the air ducts anymore.
