Ductless multi-split system provides temperature control in an addition

When my husband and I first got married, we purchased a very small house on a good sized plot of land.

The minimal square footage suited the two of us just fine.

Cleaning and maintenance was quick and easy. The cost of heating and cooling was very low. Five years later, however, the house was way too cramped for our family of five. We needed to put on a fairly large addition. We added three bedrooms, a bathroom and a family room. We debated on how to handle temperature control. We considered extending the existing ductwork but were reluctant to sacrifice valuable space. Plus, implementing a duct system is extremely expensive. We also doubted our furnace and air conditioner could handle the additional demands. We’d be forced to upgrade the heating and cooling equipment, which we couldn’t afford. After a lot of research and consulting with a local HVAC contractor, we decided on a ductless multi-split system. There is a single outdoor compressor that links to an air handler mounted in each of the rooms. The air handlers are compact, lightweight and not unattractive. Each one includes an independent thermostat and allows for customized temperature settings. The ductless system provides both heating and cooling capacity and is exceptionally energy efficient. It works by transferring heat from one location to another. The process is safe, quiet and environmentally friendly. Because the ductless heat pump requires little more than a three-inch hole in an exterior wall for the conduit and access to electricity, the entire installation procedure was completed in a single day.
