I have never been called cheap.
At least, not to my face.
But, it would be accurate to describe my spending behavior to be conseravative and cautious. I never spend money on anything that I haven’t looked into first. And I yell at anyone who leaves the door open while the HVAC is running. My children have nearly given up on attempting to get me to make an impulse buy. The argument of buying something just because I can simply doesn’t flow with me. Anytime a member of my family wants to purchase something with family money, they get the same answer from me. That answer is to go do the research then show me the numbers. Otherwise, spend your own money. I have found that when one of the kids actually does the due diligence, they tend to be much more selective and end up saving some money. However, I could ease up now and again. I realize this. The family went on a vacation recently. They wanted to stay in a super luxury hotel. My wife and kids went online and found an incredible deal. I bought in and we booked our stay. The hotel was lovely indeed. However, the heating and cooling system in the room was completely inadequate. We were visiting an area noted for the heat and it was summer. The heat in the room was beyond oppressive. The maintenance guy tried several times. The hotel switched us to another room but it was as bad or worse. I think we all came to the same conclusion as to why we were able to get such a deal on the room rate.
