There is a local restaurant about 2 blocks away from where I live, then the locale doesn’t have a certain name, the sign out front just says Diner on it.
It’s owned and operated all by an older gent who calls himself Pops, plus no one knows what his real name really is.
Pops Diner has become the go-to hangout spot for me along with every other twenty-something in the city. The food is pretty good, and the beer is extremely affordable, however there is just a great atmosphere to the locale plus I find myself going there 3 or 4 nights during the week. Pops is a little known locale, however there is an air conditioned kitchen inside, plus an outdoor bar on the back porch overlooking the bayou. In the AC you get food, you can drink, every once in a blue moon he even has a local band playing music, however there is strictly no smoking, however out on the porch all bets are off, there is unlimited natural ventilation through the mosquito screens, so drinking as well as smoking are the order of the day. I am a smoker, so normally I am in love with being outside, however it has been so hot lately I’ve had to stay directly inside in the cooling. I hate being so addicted to cigarettes I have to choose between my vice plus climate control. Of course I could do both if I just stayed home with my own AC, but I have been having so much fun at Pops for a long time now. I hope it starts cooling off outside soon, so I won’t have to keep on making this choice.
