I have been staying in the same dorm for almost 4 years.
When I first got to my dorm I really didn’t like it because it was so hot without AC.
I had no idea that there would be no AC when I moved in. I had to get a portable air conditioner which made it a little more bearable. Once I had finished my first few years of college, I got a job with the dorm company and became a resident assistant in the same dorm, even though there was a new AC. I have fought many times to get something like window AC units in the dorms but the school says that the can’t afford them. I always have first year students coming to me and complaining about the lack of AC and I always have to tell them that there is really nothing I can do about it. I personally can’t wait to graduate so that I can get an apartment or house that actually has AC! In fact one of the first things I am going to look for in my school is something that has AC. I really can’t stand to be without a good HVAC system. It doesn’t get cold at all where I live so it’s fine that there aren’t any oil heaters or anything like that. I feel like it should be illegal to have dorms without AC, especially when there are multiple men living in one space. A lot of the dorms have small portable AC units, which is at least something. I have given away many of my old portable AC units to students that really needed them. The university has also donated a few portable AC units.
