I learned how to conserve energy when I lived on my own and I minized my A/C use

I sure did learn the hard way how rough it would be living on my own for the first time.

I guess it’s true that if you want to learn to swim, you got to jump in the water.

That’s what it felt like for me because I was hit with all kinds of expenses that I didn’t really plan for. I thought I would at least be left with some spending money, but I was lucky if I could pay for all my bills and still have food on my table. Food was pretty much slim pickens for the longest time. I came to learn that it was either enjoy some air conditioning and starve, or be able to eat and suffer from the heat. I started getting energy saving tips from various people and learned it was better to use fans in my house instead of too much A/C because fans don’t use nearly as much electricity. I also heard about smart thermostats so I decided to get one. That smart thermostat was absolutely amazing. I was able to control it from just about anywhere. The times when I forgot to shut off the HVAC system, it was no problem because I was able to turn it off remotely. The smart thermostat learned my preferred settings and started adjusting the temperature control settings on its own. I thought that was really great. I mostly kept the thermostat in energy saving mode and I was saving a ton of money on the energy bills. That’s basically how I made it through college, by conserving energy wherever I could manage.
