There is a cute little steakhouse about numerous blocks away from where I live, then the location doesn’t have a regular name, the sign out front just says Diner on it, then it belongs to an older gent who calls himself Pops, and no 1 knows what his real name legitimately is, but pops Diner has become the go-to hangout spot for me and every single twenty-somethings in the city.
The food is pretty good, and the beer is extremely affordable, however there is just a fantastic atmosphere to the location and I find myself going there 3 or 4 days a week.
Pops is pretty small, but there is an air conditioned family room inside, and an outdoor bar on the back porch overlooking the bayou. In the A/C you get food, you can drink, once or twice per month he even has a local band playing songs, however there is never any smoking. Out on the porch all bets are off, there is unlimited natural ventilation through the mosquito screens, so drinking and smoking are the order of the day. I am an avid smoker, so normally I like being outside, however it has been so sizzling lately I’ve been forced to stay inside in the cooling. I hate being so addicted to cigarettes I have to choose between my vice and weather conditions control. Naturally I could do both if I just stayed beach house with my own AC, however I have been having so much fun at Pops lately. I pray that it starts cooling off outside soon, so I won’t have to keep on making this choice.
