Just an old HVAC whiz and his hippie

Last week, my husband and I went to visit an old friend of his.

When he said it was an old friend, I thought he meant it was someone from his childhood.

It was definitely someone from his childhood, but he was also very old. The man was a friend of his dad’s and when his dad passed on, my husband had been taken in by the old man, as a substitute dad. He was a lovable old codger and he treated my husband well. He commented on my not being the type of girl he thought ‘Hippie’ would end up with. I was surprised at how modern his home was, when his wife showed me around. She told me he was quite a HVAC whiz when he was younger. He made sure the heating and air conditioning was constantly being updated. He wanted her and Hippie to have the best of everything. She told me how much he had missed my husband once he had moved away. I learned that between my husband’s electronically minded brain, and his HVAC minded brain, they had designed the entire HVAC and electrical system by themselves. The entire house was automated to make it easier for she and her husband when they got older. When it came time to leave, she kissed my cheek and told me to make sure to bring Hippie back again. On our way home, I kept staring at my husband, seeing him with different eyes. I never knew that he was able to work with HVAC. Nor, did I ever know that he was a hippie. It’s amazing how life can change a person.
