Losing use of my HVAC system during thunderstorms is frustrating

The house starts feeling humid and my skin sticks to my clothing

I use to love thunderstorms as a child. Anytime the sky would get dark and I could hear far off thunder murmur in the distance, I would race outside and watch as the storms rolled in. Even if it meant going out in pouring rain, I didn’t care. I had a fascination with the weather so strong that nothing could stop me from experiencing what at the time felt like god-like events. Especially considering the times we had tornados in the area, or even the one dreaded occasion when I saw one in the distance and feared our house would soon be shredded apart. But, I don’t enjoy anything about thunderstorms anymore at my current age. Rain happens when you least expect it, and sometimes when you want it the least, like on a long schedule vacation or event, or trying to get to your car at the back of parking lot without an umbrella or jacket. Right now my least favorite part of the constant thunderstorms in my area is having my air conditioner go out so much from the power outages. I’m not talking about having the power blink on and off for a few seconds at a time; the type of outages we experience in this area last for hours at a time. If it’s the middle of summer on a hot July afternoon, losing the air conditioner for longer than a few minutes at a time is torture. The house starts feeling humid and my skin sticks to my clothing. Instead of feeling excitement, the only thing I feel when I see a thunderstorm approaching from the distance is dread. Will it knock out my power this time, or will I be spared for a change?
