I have always been an avid smoker, so normally I enjoy being outside, but it has been so hot lately I’ve had to stay inside in the a/c.
There is a steakhouse two or three blocks away from where I live, however the place doesn’t have a respected name, the sign out front just says Diner on it! It’s run by an older gent who likes to call himself Pops, & no one knows what her real name is. Pops Diner has become the go-to hangout spot for myself and others & every other twenty-something in the city. The food is pretty good, & the beer is pretty cheap, but there is just a superb atmosphere to the place & I find myself finding something to eat there 3 or 4 mornings every single week. Pops is a small site, but there is an air conditioned dining room inside, & an outdoor bar on the back porch overlooking the bayou. In the A/C you get food, you can sip on, sometimes she even has a local band playing music, but there is never any smoking, but out on the porch all bets are off, there is unlimited natural ventilation through the mosquito screens, so drinking & smoking are the order of the morning. I do not like being so addicted to cigarettes I have to choose between our vice & climate control. Of course I could do both if I just stayed condo with our own AC, but I have been having such a blast at Pops lately. I hope it starts cooling off outside soon, so I won’t have to keep on making this choice.
