Southern Native Deals with Northern Winter

It never gets an easier.

In fact, it just gets that much harder to stand every year.

I’m a Southern transplant going into my second decade of living up North. The cultural change was significant but one I quickly got accustomed to. People are people no matter where they’re from. Respect, understanding and embracing new things go a long way toward assimilating to any new place. However, the weather has just kicked my butt since the day I set foot up here. While I am certainly fond of the nice summers, they are far to brief. And then, it’s winter again. The furnace comes on and the whole routine starts over. I was lucky when I moved up here to find a really good HVAC company. They are great people and consummate professionals. They really helped me adjust to the needs of HVAC equipment in the North. I grew up with a heat pump. And, we hardly ever turned that thing to heat during the winter. So, I was completely out of my element when I bought our first home here. Before we moved in, we knew we were going to be faced with updating the HVAC system. The house had an old, inefficient furnace. My new friends at the HVAC company helped me tremendously by helping me figure out what to do. We replaced that furnace with the one that is still getting it done now. I’ve done my part by having the furnace maintained throughout all these years. Nobody but my favorite heating and air pros have had their hands that furnace. I’m thankful I can rely on it. But, I don’t think I will ever get accustomed to all this cold.
