Thieves broke into her home through the window unit

An associate asked me to keep an eye on her home while she went on a little getaway.

All I had to do was collect the mail, and everything went smoothly for the first few days.

However, on the fourth afternoon, I went to check on her house and I noticed that someone had broken into it. Her window a/c unit had been unfastened and the thief had gotten into her house and gone through all of her stuff. I couldn’t tell what was missing and I felt horrible when I had to call her and tell her what took place. She decided to come home early so she could take an inventory of her home. Some electronics were stolen and a few other valuables as well. My fiance offered to help my associate install ductless mini split a/c and heater, so she could avoid this happening again. The ductless mini-split system does not need an open window, where a thief could climb through. However it’s a lot like a window unit, with the compressor located outside with thin hoses to direct the air inside the house through the walls. My associate took him up on the offer and she also had her window switched with a locking window. I’m so ecstatic that she is not mad at me over what happened, because it really wasn’t my fault. I’m undoubtedly ecstatic that she’s letting my fiance install the ductless mini-split system as well, because her home will be much safer now. Maybe she can resume her little getaway when this is all done.
