I have a friend who asked me to keep an eye on his condo while he went on a getaway.
I just collected the mail and everything was fine during the first few nights.
However, one afternoon, I went to check on his condo and I saw that there had been a break in through the window A/C machine, which had been removed and someone crawled into the condo and gone through all his belongings. I couldn’t tell what was missing. I felt awful when I had to call him and relay what had happened. My friend decided to cut his getaway short and come back to the condo to talk to the police and take inventory of his belongings. Some electronics were missing and a few other things as well. My hubby offered to help my friend install ductless mini split a/c and heat system, so that this would never happen again. The ductless mini-split system does not need an open window that a thief could climb through. However, it’s a lot like a window machine with a compressor outside. There are thin hoses that direct air inside the condo through the walls. My friend took my husband up on his offer and he also had his window replaced with a better locking window. I’m thrilled that he wasn’t angry with me over what happened, since there was nothing I could’ve done. I’m thankful that he’s letting my hubby install the ductless mini-split system as well, so his apartment will be much safer. Maybe he can take another getaway when this is all done.
