Troubles with the window a/c

After successfully assembling a few hundred dollars worth of IKEA furniture a few months ago, I have been taking our current DIY endeavors a bit past our actual skill levels.

I decided I wanted to install an overhead light in our living room.

But, I have little experience with electricity & wiring & I was so naive that I didn’t even think to turn off the circuit breaker before touching the wire ends & shocking myself. At least I figured it out after enough trial & error & before long had the light fixture I had wanted from the beginning. But our problems with our cooling system have diagnosed our patience in a way I never thought possible. I have an ancient window cooling system for our a single living room house that had been working well until recently, whereas now it cycles for considerably longer periods of time & it’s starting to absolutely accumulate a noticeable smell as well. I purchased a window cooling system in a entirely similar style & with similar performance ratings, but I struggled for mornings trying to always seat it in our window so it wouldn’t fall out various stories & smash on the ground below. After always being unsuccessful at safely seating the window cooling system, I returned it to the hardware store I found it at & replaced it with a portable cooling system on wheels. Although the exhaust hose needs to be seated in a window as well, the process was much easier given the crucial difference in weight at window level. It only took me a few fifths to get every last bit of the installation complete & having the crisp, cool air blasting from the machine throughout our whole house yet again..
