Two homes, two automation systems

AFter twenty-five years of living in the south, my wife and I decided we wanted to be a reverse snowbird.

Reverse snowbirds are the people who have two homes.

We like knowing that we can go home to the north if we miss the snow or when we want to get away from the extreme heat of the south. We don’t want to spend all of our time up north in the winter, so we can have the comfortable temperatures of the south. Owning two homes is a comfort, but it is also a pain because you have double the troubles that can arise. My wife and I made the choice to have home automation systems installed in both homes. It has eased our minds knowing that we can monitor the homes when we aren’t there. We have our HVAC system, surveillance system and even our appliances connected to our home automation. We always worried about what we were going to come home to after being gone for several months. There could be broken pipes from loss of heating in the winter or mold and mildew from a broken air conditioning unit. We worried about unwanted guests like mice or bugs, or even about intruders. Our home automation system alerts us if there is a problem and we are able to quickly notify the right people and have it fixed. We no longer worry about home invasions because we have surveillance cameras and a home monitoring system that contacts the authorities if someone tries to break into our home. Our home automation system has definitely made our lives much easier and it has saved us money and time.
