Weighing the pros and cons of two very different climates

I recently took a vacation to an area of the country that has beautiful weather.

It’s the middle of the summer mind you, and I’m used to heat and humidity.

That’s why I was so surprised by how mild the weather was, even in the middle of the afternoon in this place. Throughout the entire time I was there, the temperature never exceeded 75 degrees nor did it ever dip below 60. The sun was nearly always shining and there was a cool breeze in the shade that was delightful. In the evening, when I returned to my hotel room, the air conditioner was practically unnecessary, as well as any form of climate control. This was the most surprising thing of all. Where I live, air conditioning is necessary throughout the entire day and night in the summertime. In this place, it was cool enough in the evening to simply use a blanket or two. During the day the temperature was pretty much perfect. From what I understand, the summers around here are mild, but the winters can be quite cold. It made me wonder whether or not I would be willing to make that trade-off. Would I prefer enjoying mild summers without ever having to use the air conditioner at all if it meant I had to endure very cold winters and use my heating unit a lot? Is that better than extremely hot and humid summers and warm to mild winters in which air conditioning is used throughout most of the year? I’m almost willing to believe that the former is better!
