How our HVAC company was started

My father runs the company now, but only because my grandmother provided it to him after retiring.

My grandmother built this place with her own hands, started as the only employee, and worked for forty years to turn it into what it has become today.

She may be mean as a snake, even though she is incredibly smart, with a mind for business, and an indomitable spirit. I asked her what made her get into this line of work, because back then it was a fairly weird path for a farm worker to take. “How did you get into the air conditioner device business?” I asked her, and she said “because I was tired of being hot.” She told how at the time, all the people didn’t have air conditioning, especially farming people. In the major cities cooling devices were starting to catch on with the upper classes, but there wasn’t much tech out here, aside from using a fan. For my Grandma it was as easy as driving off the farm and into the city, where she went to a series of ventilation specialists looking for an apprenticeship. It would have been crazy to attempt to learn about cooling without learning about heating, because there are two sides of the same coin. The more stories she tells, the less details she supplies, but the end of the story is that she moved back out to the country and founded the first Heating and Air Conditioning device company in this region. I guess she is ecstatic to be retired and be finished with the paperwork, even though she still grumbles about how my father runs the Heating and Air Conditioning device company.
