Road trip!

It was a really long hot road trip.

We had decided to begin the drive at noon to arrive in the evening at around dinnertime so we could eat, cool off, get the kids to bed, have a nice rest and get to the park at opening time.

The weather was hot and muggy. There was about an hour of heavy rain. And very slow traffic. We detoured for dinner and took our time in a classic roadside diner because lucky for us their food was great and they were running their air conditioner ice cold! We even had coconut key lime pie and cool refreshing root beer floats. We got back on the road again headed for the hotel which had just completed an extensive remodel including brand new super clean VRF HVAC systems throughout.. From the look of the new hotel website photo gallery, the air conditioners are invisible. I have seen many of the bulky wall mounted A/C units as well as the vertical models that take up a whole corner of a small hotel room but I was curious about these new VRF systems. Soon enough, we arrived at the hotel. I couldn’t wait to get checked in, turn the room on and get down to the pool for a dip. I looked around and located the Variable Refrigerant Flow unit in the ceiling with a friendly little touch screen control pad that lighted softly to greet me as I approached it. The sounds of the kids shouting over each other faded as they ran down the hall towards the pool. In that one quiet moment it was just me and the A/C. I touched on, then cool, then typed 74 degrees Fahrenheit. I savored a long fresh breath of that brand new room smell. Perfect.
