Should you clean your air vents?

Earlier this year, in the middle of springtime, my mother came to visit me for about a week. She wanted to get away from a stressful job and hang out with her favorite daughter! I was only too happy to spend the time with her, and I had taken a few days off of work to do some spring cleaning. We had a great time over the course of that week, and my mother even decided to help me with some of the spring cleaning. We vacuumed and dusted and wiped down every single solitary surface in the house as we chatted amicably and caught up with each other. Then my mother did something that I did not anticipate. She took it upon herself to unscrew the air vents in the various rooms of my home and scrub them down thoroughly with hot soap and water. She then finished by vacuuming the air vents to remove every single solitary particle of dust from them. I asked her why she felt the need to do this, and she responded that it was good for the health of my HVAC system and it prevented dust from floating around the various rooms of my home. I had to admit that I have never cleaned my air vents before. She told me that it was a very good idea to do so, and I think I will be following her advice moving forward. After all, it’s not particularly difficult to clean the vents, it’s just that I never thought of doing it.
