The sun makes my thermostat go crazy in the late afternoon hours

Even though it frustrated me to no end, our only recourse was to simply keep the house at a warmer temperature than before

My house doesn’t get a lot of shade after my wife decided to have several trees cut down. Although we live in a stormy area, I was opposed to this idea from the jump. In many places you have to worry about trees falling on your house, and our situation was no different. Obviously if this happened, the damages could be catastrophic. Plus, if someone was in their bedroom upstairs and the tree came through the roof, someone could get injured or killed. At the same time, I was opposed to removing all of the trees in one fell swoop. They were home to countless birds and squirrels too. After the final tree was taken down, the heat in our house jumped. Before we had no issues keeping the air conditioner as low 74 degrees during the afternoon in summer heat no less. Now we were struggling to maintain 78 degrees during the middle of spring. Those trees were providing ample shade from the sun’s radiant heat. Now all of that radiant heat was bearing down directly on our house. The thermostat is constantly struggling to maintain our comfort levels. Even though it frustrated me to no end, our only recourse was to simply keep the house at a warmer temperature than before. I’m in part frustrated with my wife for making the executive decision to remove all of the trees. Part of me knew this would happen, especially after half of them were cleared out during the first day of labor with our landscaper. Hopefully we can learn from this experience and never make the same mistake in the future.
