There are things to avoid when installing a window air conditioner

I thought that I would enjoy finally living alone in my own apartment.

My first taste of living outside of my parent’s house was a cramped dorm room that I shared with two other students that I never got along with in my time in undergraduate school.

Two years later I started sharing a house with a few students from the science department. I was so frustrated living there because I could never get a night of uninterrupted sleep, no matter what day of the week it was. So when I finally had enough money saved and a sufficiently paying job, I started looking for an apartment that I could rent alone. I looked at all of the studio apartments available in my city and was at first deterred by the prices being higher than I expected. But after a few months of persistence, I finally found a great location that overlooks a lush nature preserve. However, the window air conditioner that came with it was old and smelled like mold when it ran. I figured it would be easy for me to replace it with a new one from the hardware store, but I was worried if I could handle it alone. After reading online, I realized that I needed to have the right measurements, as well as an idea of the durability of the existing window frame. You could get another window a/c of a similar size but an significant increase in weight could stress the window frame further. On top of that, these are dangerous to install from windows in multi-story buildings because of the chance of one falling and fatally injuring a person walking down the street. That’s why I called and had an HVAC technician help me with the project.
