Took a common sense approach to saving on HVAC this summer

I should have talked with a native as soon as we moved down here.

Yet, I didn’t and I don’t even want to consider the amount of money that I flushed on HVAC cooling.

When I interviewed for the job, it was spring and the zone controlled HVAC in the office felt wonderful. Outside it was in the low 80’s and just glorious. That had a lot to do with me taking the job once it was offered. And I had to relocate which is never easy. First, I had to upgrade the HVAC equipment in my home to get it on the market. Then, I had to pack up my stuff and move a long way away from what had been my home all of my life. None of that was easy. Plus, my new position inside that zone controlled HVAC was seriously challenging. While I loved the work and the new responsibilities, it took all of my energy as well. So when the summer rolled around and the level of heat and humidity went through the roof, I was a bit overwhelmed. The only thing I could think to do was to lean into the HVAC cooling at home. The house I bought came with a brand new heat pump. And it got a ton of work right out of the gate. It took 3 years for me to figure out that the best approach to saving on HVAC cooling is accepting the heat a bit. So I didn’t turn on the air conditioning until mid May and it made all the difference.
