When I finally cleaned the air vents, I screamed.

If I found one dead mouse, there were likely to be others in the house; once the exterminator said the house was clear of mice, they would send ductwork cleaners to the house.

Once a month, I pull out my old vacuum cleaner and wash the air vents and ductworks. I like to make sure my kids haven’t shoved anything into the air vents that could get into the ductwork. They had done that a few years back at Easter time, and the aroma of burnt chocolate permeated the house. Ever since then, I put ductwork cleaning on my weekly cleaning list. The other day, I had my vacuum cleaner out and was working on the kitchen ductworks. The vacuum seemed to be plugged, so I blew the air in the opposite direction. I had a dead mouse come flying out of the hose, and land on the floor in front of me… First, I screamed and after that I called the heating and air conditioning supplier. I told them I was cleaning the air vents and ductworks, and there was a dead mouse. He told me to calm down and then asked me to call the exterminator. If I found one dead mouse, there were likely to be others in the house; once the exterminator said the house was clear of mice, they would send ductwork cleaners to the house. They would wash the ductwork and check for ways the mice were getting in. I already knew how the mice got in. My cat was sitting in front of me with a dead mouse in his mouth. I was still going to get the ductwork cleaned since the mouse was in there, despite the fact that I didn’t feel I needed the exterminator, even though I still let him come out to do his task.
