Converting a tool shed into an art office fully equipped with an air conditioner

My client’s son is in high school and loves painting, so they thought about giving him space to do his work as his sixteenth birthday gift.

The shed only needed a little work because it was already well built, but it needed a quality air conditioner to help with indoor comfort because they were sure he’d be spending all his time in the shed.

The shed is detached from the main house, so there was no way to expand the capacity of the existing HVAC equipment. As a cooling tech for the local cooling corporation, my client expected that we would make the best decision on an air conditioner for the shed. I took them through several cooling options, but a mini split air conditioner was the most suitable. The most exciting thing is that when the cooling specialist team showed up at the house for the installation, the son joined them, saying that he’d always been interested in learning more about air conditioning and the cooling industry, so he’d want to watch them work. He was curious and asked as many questions as he could. He wanted to be something other than a cooling representative, but he’d like to handle air conditioning maintenance and maybe basic air conditioning repair when he gets his own space. I got the feeling he’s one of those private people who’d instead do everything for themselves to avoid human contact, but he still appeared very social. He had no idea that the shed had been converted for his use, but I am sure he loved the surprise because he couldn’t stop mentioning how cool he thought his parent’s new office looked. I hope his art grew into something he’s proud of.
