My son Ed likes to supply myself and others with a hard time.
He comes down to visit whenever he can plus keeps threatening to trade the old gas furnace for the new heat pump the way my friend and I did… Of course, my wife and I spent our entire adult life dealing with ugly winters so Ed’s got a way to go before he can match that feat.
Still, he needles myself and others about being so old that I had to come south plus lay around in the air conditioning. While I guess Ed’s kidding, there certainly is some truth to all of that. For sure, the older I became, the more winter weather up north just beat myself and others down. And it wasn’t just the physical beat down from the constant hot plus cold temps in the teens, snow plus ice. It was also the mental beat down of being trapped in the heating at the lake apartment or inside the commercial Heating as well as Air Conditioning of the office suite. That’s how it felt toward the end there. I just hated being inside all the time for a few weeks of the year. When my friend and I started looking at locales to retire to, my wife and I had a list of what my friend and I wanted. No substantial cities, good weather plus a Florida room. This is something that both my fiance plus I had typically wanted. So when my wife and I bought this house, my friend and I added just the right sunroom. It nearly doubled our square footage of USAble space. And it almost totally feels like I have the outside right inside the house. That’s why Ed gives myself and others a hard time about having air conditioning outside. My wife and I have ductless heat pump that provides air conditioning plus some occasional heating
