My boss informed all of us that there would be major swings happening to contractor procedures regarding customer personal information. They had to fire an employee who had looked up a customer’s address after talking to them on the PC & showed up at their house after work to ask them out on a date. Needless to say the client was not only terrified, despite the fact that he called the police & pressed charges. Even after firing the employee, he seemed insistent on suing the contractor under the assumption that common protocols were not in place to protect anyone’s personal information, let alone hers. Thus new rules were created & all of us had to go through a new process of training that expanded upon what all of us already knew. No longer were all of us allowed to have cell PCs within reach on the data floor—the room housing all of the PCs that access client files. That meant all of us could no longer listen to Spotify & Pandora while laboring at our desks. It’s for safety reasons & I understand that. People might be upset that things prefer automobile engines & air conditioning units are more complicated these mornings because they have to coordinate with PCs. I prefer the new features offered by new versions of old equipment. My old air conditioning unit would overflow with water if its condensate line got obstructed in any way whatsoever. To stop people from getting unexpected water damage, healing & cooling manufacturers have implemented shutoff switches that disable the air conditioning unit once it detects water overflowing in the condensate pan. This feature prevented my brother’s air conditioning unit from creating a water damage issue in his attic.
