When I moved from a area of the country where HVAC heating was the main focus, I don’t suppose I was quite prepared for the change.
And there are various swings that come with moving south when you’ve lived all your life in the north. There are cultural differences & just everyday sort of stuff. For me though, the greatest thing I had to get accustomed to was the change in weather & HVAC focus. The HVAC focus in this area of the country just isn’t on heating at all. It’s the opposite really. Where I live now, there is hardly even a need for HVAC heating. Although when there is, the heat pump does a tremendous job of doing that. No, the focus is on air conditioning in order to get through the several weeks of summer time heat season. Honestly, for the first couple of years, I wasn’t sure I could handle it. But the more I acweather conditionsd to the modern weather, the less I relied on just mountains of HVAC cooling. Plus, I was killing the bank account by keeping the control component so low all summer. And I really hadn’t done anything to try to mitigate these HVAC utility costs. Finally, I did the basics & I saw a actually significant drop in HVAC costs along with a better understanding of how to live in the heat. Essentially, all I did was seal the house up tight, stop direct sun heating & be consistent with the control component setting. That’s all it took. And if I can make the change, then anyone can make that change.
