I’m not too proud to say that I needed some residential HVAC in my house. The vast majority of all the homes in this country come with some form of modern HVAC technology. Whether that’s central air conditioning, a geothermal heat pump or ductless heat pumps, heating and cooling is ubiquitous in our country. But for me, I lived for the better part of two decades with only a wood stove for heating during the Winter. That’s because I’ve lived in a cabin in the woods for that long. It would have been longer but I had to work inside the commercial HVAC of a corporate office for a while. It was there that I was able to get the skills to go out on my own. And I was also able to live very simply in order to save every dime I made for my property and cabin. But I love the way I live. Sure, it’s an hour into the nearest town but that’s no sweat really. I used to have to come to town to send things via the internet for my work. These days, I have wi-fi in my home thanks to satellite internet. So I only go into town occasionally anymore. Shoot, everything I need is right here at my fingertips. I have a garden, some livestock and now, I have air conditioning. After I upgraded the solar array that provides all of my electricity, I chose to get a ductless heat pump. It’s perfect for being able to have some air conditioning when it gets sweltering in the Summer. Plus, going to bed with the cooling from the ductless heat pump is just heaven.
