When the time came to replace our decade old air conditioning system with a new one, I told my husband that I was going to contact the HVAC company about setting up an installation date.
When I said this, he looked at me like I was crazy.
My husband thought that he was going to install the new air conditioning himself because he wanted to save as much money as possible. In his mind, we were already spending thousands of dollars on a new air conditioning system, so he didn’t want to spend even more money on an HVAC professional to install it. I thought the idea of my husband installing the air conditioning system was ludicrous! In my mind, since we were spending so much money on a new air conditioning system, I didn’t mind spending a little bit more on professional installation. Neither my husband or I knew how to properly install an air conditioning system, which meant that there was a lot that could go wrong. It would be wasteful to spend so much money on a new appliance and then break something that could have been avoided. My husband countered my stance on the situation by telling me that we had a warranty, so if anything went wrong, we could replace it. I didn’t think the warranty covered a malfunction on installation unless it was put in by an HVAC professional. We went back and forth on the issue until he agreed to hire an HVAC professional.
