Using an old shipping container to help out animals

I inherited some land from my dad, and it wasn’t a lot but it was worth moving for.

The house on the land was pretty small, and very old, and was more in need of destruction than renovation. Still I moved out there, mostly for one important reason — my animals. I am a sucker for strays, both cats and dogs, and over the years have amassed quite the menagerie. Living in the city, cooped up in my small apartment, was not good for them, and I guess it wasn’t good for me either. Living in the country is great for them, but they needed a sturdy shelter so I called my old buddy from my custom welding days. For a few years I worked as a welder for a custom metal fabrication company, mostly making ductwork and such. I remember my friend leaving that job to get into working with prefab housing and shipping containers, so I gave him a call. He was so glad to hear from me he said if I paid the shipping on it, he would give me a free cargo container. Since I still have all my old custom welding equipment, I could modify it however I wanted and turn it into an animal shelter. It took a while, because my custom welding skills were a bit rusty (forgive the pun) but now my animals have a dry, warm, safe place to sleep. Now that it’s all done, I think I’ll order another cargo container for myself and turn it into my brand new home.
