Ever since my husband injured his back, he hasn’t been able to lift the air conditioner and put it into the window.
We have one window air conditioner for our entire house. It is all we have since we moved into this house, over twenty years ago. I love the window air conditioning unit. We live in an area where night time is cool enough that air conditioning isn’t necessary. Without the AC, however, it would be very uncomfortable during the day because of the humidity. My daughter and her husband have been helping to put the air conditioner in the window for the past three years. This year, my son-in-law wasn’t in the mood to help. He told me that for $5000 we could put central air conditioning in the house. If I had $5000 I may consider it, but not for long. Central air conditioning needs to have ductwork if it is going to circulate throughout the house. I would need to hire a crew to install the ductwork and then only half of my house would be air conditioned. Our house was built in sections over the decades. Before we bought the house, the owners had built a sitting room onto the house. It had been raised off the ground, but it was only about six inches off. There is no crawl space to install the ductwork. My son-in-law looked taken aback when I said this aloud. He apologized and said he was just in a bad mood.
