Yoga helps with stress relief

I have been meeting with a therapist.

When I lost my job in February, I was extremely worried about the future and depressed.

I felt miserable for weeks. My husband suggested that I talk to a professional about my depression. I spoke with our family healthcare provider and he arranged an appointment with a mental health therapist. I thought that the mental health therapist would prescribe some type of medication. Instead, she suggested that I start a dedicated exercise program. She introduced me to a yoga class for beginners. I now participate in a yoga class at least three times per week. The yoga instructor demonstrates a few new poses each time that are designed to lessen stress. Some of them are far more strenuous than others, but I enjoy the physical and mental effort required to achieve them. Stress and anxiety drain my energy and even a minor problem can often push me over the edge. Yoga is an exercise technique targeted at reducing stress and helping with physical fitness. This exercise style is one of the oldest methods of exercise and meditation. Yoga includes specific breathing techniques and exercises that are used to create harmony between the body and mind. Since I began attending yoga, I have achieved a great deal of mental serenity and body awareness. I am truly quite surprised by how much I look forward to the classes. I have seen that yoga centers all of my attention and works to sharpen my concentration. I feel considerably better every day and that is a benefit I appreciate. In a few weeks, I am starting a brand new job and am so pleased that my life is turning around.
