My husband wanted a new air conditioner.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It sucks getting old.

There are too many times when you need to ask for help.

My husband and I have always been independent people. We wanted to help others, but we didn’t think we needed help with anything. We never even considered the thought that we may someday need to ask for help, but it happened. Once we hit seventy, it happened more often than we wanted. We turned to our daughter- and son-in-law, since they lived the closest to us. The biggest problem we had was with our air conditioning unit. All we needed were window air conditioners. We had considered installing central air conditioning, but the expense of adding ductwork was too much for our budget. There was a boiler system in our home for our heating, and ductwork was not a necessity. Ductless air conditioning was a consideration, but that was also an expense we didn’t want. When our son-in-law grumbled about needing to put the AC unit into the window in the spring and pull it out of the window in the fall, we knew we had to do something. We went shopping the first weekend we knew it was going to be in the eighties. The new window air conditioning we bought was almost thirty pounds lighter than the one we had. Between my husband and I, we easily picked up the AC unit and put it in the window. Now, our son-in-law is grumbling because we didn’t ask for his help this year. I’m not sure you can ever make your kids happy.
