My wife’s thermostat troubles

For the last few months my wife and I have had to sleep in separate rooms. No, there is nothing wrong with our marriage, we are as strong as ever! But middle age has been hitting her pretty hard, and as her body changes so do her comfort levels. Until things settle down and we reach a new normal (whatever that may be) I have just been crashing on the couch at night. I really don’t mind, it’s a huge couch, so it’s a temporary sacrifice I am willing to make for the greater good. She needs our thermostat cranked down to the lowest possible setting, so low that it never turns off it keeps blasting out cold air all night long. Our house has two different HVAC systems, one for the bedrooms and hallway, the other for the living room, dining room, and kitchen space. Now that I sleep in the living room, she can turn the air conditioning down until she starts to feel comfortable. Spoiler alert — she never feels comfortable, so the air conditioning never shuts off. Once she goes to work in the morning I go in there and turn the thermostat back up, way up, and give it a few hours rest. I don’t think she understands that air conditioners do not have a limitless life span, and that working them too hard shortens that lifespan. I hope this will all pass and go back to some semblance of normal, but for now I will stay on the couch, and keep shutting off the A/C in the morning to give it a rest.
