The cats love to sleep on the floor vents for the central heating system

I never considered myself a cat person. It’s not that I disliked cats, my family simply always had dogs from before I was even born. The first time I saw a cat was at my cousin’s house when I was five years old. I thought they were curious creatures, but I hated getting clawed when I tried to pet my cousin’s cat. My parents told me that not all animals are friendly to the point where they will welcome someone’s physical contact. Still, in the back of my mind it felt like cats didn’t like humans as much as dogs did. So for years I had this bias in my subconscious. When I met my girlfriend, I was head over heels in love with her and ready to accept everything in her world, from her TV watching habits to her favorite foods. Along with this came her cat named Chester. Thankfully Chester is a kind kitty. He doesn’t claw at me and he welcomes petting. Eventually my girlfriend moved in with me and we adopted a second cat. I find it cute that the cats love sleeping on the floor vents for the central heating system. The furnace is in the basement and its ventilation system is long the ceiling down there. This means heat flows from the floor upward in the ground floor of the house. The air conditioner is upstairs and the ductwork for that is located in the attic. Heat rises and cool air falls in the process, thus it makes more sense to have your heat start from the floor while the a/c is kept in the ceiling. The performance of both systems is improved with this kind of ventilation setup.
