Another step I took was to ask an Heating, Ventilation and A/C expert to come and perform some repair on the heating unit. It had been a while since the last servicing, and I suspected that was why the air conditioner was consuming lots of energy. I was right. When the AC professional opened it up, the air filter was clogged with dust and debris. As a result, it needed lots of extra energy to heat the house each morning. But, after cleaning and fixing some parts, it made less noise which was a big bonus for us.
