Black, green, and white teas explained

There are many different teas that are made from the camellia sinensis plant.

You are probably familiar with most of these teas but maybe you are not aware that these teas are all closely related.

I’m going to list them in order of most caffeinated to least caffeinated. It’s worth mentioning that all teas made from the camellia sinensis plant do have caffeine. First up is black tea. Black tea has the most amount of caffeine and it also has the boldest flavor. This tea leaf is utilized once it has darkened. Next is oolong tea. Oolong tea has a second highest caffeine rating and a lighter more earthy flavor. This tea leaf is utilized when it’s still partially green but also partially blackened. Green tea, the tea you might be most familiar with, has around half of the caffeine content that black tea does. Green tea is harvested when it’s still green and it has a slightly sweeter flavor than the previous two mentions. Green tea is cured by steaming or pan-frying the leaves. On the other hand, white tea is allowed to dry naturally outside. That’s the only difference between green and white tea. That and white tea has a slightly sweeter taste and mildly less caffeine content. So there we have the different types of teas made from the camellia sinensis plant. I don’t know about you but all this talking about t’s has really got me craving a nice cup of organic tea. I think I’ll go with the oolong flavor this time because I want the high caffeine but I also want the earthy flavor.
