Shared or Personal?

The smallest true AC units are the portables, and they are still the size of a medium-sized suitcase.

Carbonated beverages are better in small sizes for the solitary consumer because we all know how those two-liter bottles quickly lose their “fizz”. Pizza, however, should always be ordered mega-large to share with friends over a few beers after a night of bowling or softball. And why order a personal pizza for home delivery when you can order a large one and keep the uneaten portion in the refrigerator? Cold pizza is quite tasty in my opinion, but flat soda will end up being poured down the sink drain. Consumers face the same choices with household consumables. A family of 10 will want to buy shampoo in the largest quantity possible. A single person is better off with small individual packets or bottles. Items like smartphones, earbuds, and headphones have reduced music from a shared to a personal experience, but this may be a good thing based on the many tastes in music people have. Even the home’s central HVAC system is becoming more personalized with zone cooling and individual room thermostats. Portable AC units exist, but these are meant to cool a single room, not an individual. To fill that “need”, personal air conditioners are being marketed that are said to keep your personal space cool and comfortable. Potential buyers may want to review the product description because most of the personal AC products are nothing more than small swamp coolers. The smallest true AC units are the portables, and they are still the size of a medium-sized suitcase. Swamp coolers operate by the cooling effect of evaporation from a water reservoir. A better option is to use a much less expensive unit that helps evaporate water directly from your skin. It’s better known by its more common name, the fan.
